Looking for a theme for The Big reTHiNK 2012

December 5th, 2011 by likemindsmbc Leave a reply »

It’s official, we will be running a reTHiNK  challenge again in 2012, and we’re looking for a theme.

Visit www.rethink.org.nz to comment on your idea for a performance event “theme” or “Catch Phrase” that will challenge the myths and stereotypes of Mental Illness. (in 2010 it was “M.A.D. – Its a matter of degree”, in 2011 it was “Who are you in the maze of life?”)

We will be inviting submissions from venues, writers, performers, directors, filmmakers, comedians and crew from everywhere in March 2012 so make sure your signed up (top right of the website) to receive updates so that we can invite you to get involved.

Meanwhile – we wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas!

Proudly supported by Mind and Body Consultants Limited and the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand as part of the Like Minds, Like Mine programme to reduce stigma and discrimination.

What about “media illness” as a theme in light of the damaging role played by mainstream media in perpetuating false and negative stereotypes respecting individuals with mental health issues, which foster stigma, prejudice and discrimination.

Given public awareness of the phone hacking scandal, it might be a good time to identify various symptoms of media illness and its social cost in a humorous but effective way.

And via email from J.A -
    “NORMAL”

ed – Perhaps it could be expanded to “What’s NORMAL anyway?”
    or
“50% – Who is the normal half”

Tying in with both of the above an idea for a anagram could be, L.O.S.T. “Loss of societies Trust”
This would also fit well with how consumers feel when they are going through bad times, that others around dont trust them.

    HOW ABOUT THIS

    THE SLOGAN_ ” MENTAL ILLNESS….

    KNOW ME BEFOE YOU ……..

    SLEEP WITH ME” GET IT?

OK, JUST WAIT……PAUSE AND THINK ABOUT THIS.

” KNOW ME…. BEFORE YOU SLEEP WITH ME”

MEANING …..YOU HAVE TO TAKE TIME TO KNOW SOMEONE, NOT JUST THE ILNESS BUT KNOW THE PERSON, KNOW WHO THEY ARE, THEIR GOALS IN LIFE. SPEND TIME WITH SOMEONE….
DONT JUST RUSH IN , TAKE TIME TO KNOW SOMEONE

I like the ‘media illness’ idea.
Alternatively, how about ‘you are one of us’.

Stuff the usual focus on ‘normal’ people letting us into the community. We can let them into our world – because really there’s only one world and we’re all in it.

So long as this slogan is not used to recruit people into mental illness – there’s too much of that going on already! ( If you’re thinking raising awareness so that more people will seek treatment, you do not have my permission to use this idea. )

    Hey what about these:
    Mind Warp – Everyone Invited!
    or
SOS (See Our Secret) -Trapped in a Mind Warp!
    or
Psychedelic People – Wrap Your Mind in Colour!

Ok that’s it for now. Bye ;)

DID’NT ANYONE LIKE MY SLOGAN? LOL

  8. what about just the word love

God forbiddin if we all treated each other and our selves with love. May be a bit big but the core of all healing.
god forbid if the mental health system worked on the whole notion of love to all. imagine.

  9. CN says:

Matter over Mind (a flip on the old ‘mind over matter’)
